For many people, baptism is one of the most important days of their life. Since John the Baptist baptized Christ in the River Jordan, and saw the Holy Spirit descend from heaven in the form of a white dove, the white dove has become synonymous with baptisms. Releasing a flock of white doves is a wonderful way to celebrate the baptism of a child. Those in attendance are reminded of the symbolism of the dove at Christ’s baptism, representing God’s acceptance of his ordinance and the peace the dove offers throughout our lives when the covenant of baptism is kept.
